And Her Hands All Over It

Yet another China Virus DC spending spree – is a terrible idea.  We have more than $1 trillion in cash lying around from the last one – let’s first use up that, shall we?

An even worse idea – is sneaking in completely unrelated terrible ideas.  That can’t pass on their own – because they’re terrible ideas.  So they hide them in other bills – to sneak them through.

You’re less likely to vote against or veto the terrible and unpopular idea – if it’s affixed to a terrible but less unpopular one.

Like the terribly awful Surprise Medical Bills (SMB) ideas currently being considered for China Virus bill inclusion.

How do we know this iteration of SMB is terrible and unpopular?  Because its proponents have already on more than one occasion attempted to foist it upon us.  And we weren’t having any of it.

A Terrible Surprise Bill from Congress – For Christmas. Ho Ho No

‘Crisis!!!’: Congress Should Practice #SocialDistancing from Socialist Medicine

Oh – and they’ve previously tried to sneak it into previous China Virus bills.

Congress Is Again Trying to Hide Socialist Medical Price Fixing in a China Virus Bill

What are SMBs?:

“‘Surprise medical bill’ is a term commonly used to describe charges arising when an insured individual inadvertently receives care from an out-of-network provider.

“This situation could arise in an emergency when the patient has no ability to select the emergency room, treating physicians, or ambulance providers.

“Surprise medical bills might also arise when a patient receives planned care from an in-network provider (often, a hospital or ambulatory care facility), but other treating providers brought in to participate in the patient’s care are not in the same network.”

Given the failures of Obamacare, Medicare, Medicaid, the Veterans Administration, CHIP… – I’m a firm “No” on the government yet again attempting to “fix” medicine.

The SMB “fix” yet again being bandied about – is straight-up Socialist price controls on all things medicine.

As we’ve previously said on numerous occasions: “No, thank you.”

Yet here they go yet again….

Pelosi Huddles with Chairmen on Surprise Billing but Deal Elusive

Let’s hope the awful deal Pelosi and Company are trying reach is not only elusive – but unattainable.

As the late, great George Carlin rightly noted:

“Bipartisan usually means that a larger-than-usual deception is being carried out.”

This awful Socialist price fixing scheme – is bipartisan.  And as with all things Socialism – no lie will be spared in its attempted execution.

Behold: An extensive SMB bipartisan fabrication.

You know who knows a little more about medicine than DCs slithering den of bipartisan bureaucrats?  Actual medical professionals.

And given how much government is already imposing upon them with the China Virus – piling upon them with additional, unrelated government medical “fixes” ain’t the best idea:

“America’s physicians strongly agree that it is critical to protect patients from Surprise Medical Bills, and we firmly believe that thoughtful, measured federal solution is possible to achieve. However, now is not the time to adopt divisive surprise billing legislation.

Emphasis – theirs.

I’ll add my wrinkle:  We have foisted upon our medical professionals – enough government crap with which to deal.  Let’s not pile upon them even more government crap.

I know any nigh idea Pelosi likes – is a terrible idea.  I certainly know an unrelated-to-China-Virus terrible idea – has no business in a China Virus bill.  Which is why I signed this coalition letter saying so.

Thankfully…:

“More broadly, though, it is unclear if any of the top four congressional leaders, in both parties, will push for inclusion of surprise billing legislation in the upcoming package, leaving its future looking bleak.

“Pelosi still faces a divide among her chairmen and has so far not been willing to overrule either side to reach a deal. And Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has not expressed any interest in dealing with the issue.

God bless gridlock.  And God bless Senator McConnell and his utter disinterest.  If the guy running the Senate isn’t interested in something moving in the Senate – it isn’t moving.

Here’s hoping Pelosi can’t herd her House cats.

And here’s to McConnell remaining enamor-less and inert – should Pelosi get her cats herded.
